How to look exceptional by wearing boyfriend shirt as a light Jacket

The boyfriend shirt is, of course, not to be confused with your boyfriend’s shirt. Or is it?

The boyfriend fashion trend, led by the boyfriend jeans, plays an important role in the modern day fashion world. More specifically, the trend is a big part of casual outfits for ladies. The origin of the name is obvious but for those of you don’t know, the boyfriend outfits basically mean the outfits that seem to be borrowed from boyfriends. The boyfriend shirt is a long, loose shirt that gives the impression that you’ve put on your boyfriend’s clothes (hence the name). For example, the boyfriend jeans are jeans that are relaxed fit and ripped.

The meaning of the boyfriend shirt is a shirt for women that is slightly loose and oversized, with a somewhat masculine design. It is great in terms of fashion, and literally you can wear it with anything- mini skirts, denim shorts, jeans and it never goes wrong. While your boyfriend may wonder what all the fuss is about, to you it’s a cosy comfy wrap-around, with amazing versatility for endless variations on the theme.

If you do not own a boyfriend shirt, then you don’t know what you’re missing out on. You can create some very trendy and sexy looks with this piece of clothing. Not convinced yet?. So in this blog post, I am going to talk about a popular piece of the boyfriend fashion: the boyfriend shirt and how this makes you look exceptional when worn as a light jacket.

Summer could be the time for raiding the wardrobe of a boyfriend, brother, male friend, or whoever. I am not condoning stealing here but the benefits of an oversized button-up shirt are so great and varied, I might be willing to overlook the fact that you still haven’t returned that shirt you borrowed from your brother/boyfriend/buddy nearly six months ago. No matter how you came by the cozy staple, I highly encourage bringing this little dash of dude into your outfit rotation for summer. The preppy button-up makes dressy items more casual, makes casual items more dressy, and provides a light, polished layer to your usual summertime getups.

Boyfriend shirt

So I tried 2 different boyfriend shirt as a light Jacket over an outfit and to my wonder the same outfit looked so different with every boyfriend shirt. I have kept the pair of jeans and the inner black top common. It’s summer time so I chose an inner top which is thin but not see through. You can replace this with a tank top, camisole, tube top or any other top you like.

  • Jeans: Jack and Jones
  • Black top: Forever21

Look 1

So for this look I chose an olive coloured shirt from zara. It is from their men’s collection. If you ever plan to buy an oversized shirt for yourself always buy it from the men’s collection because it brings the perfect oversized look. Material of the shirt is a mixed cotton which makes it soft and breathe through. This shirt helps you to ditch the heavy jackets for looking stylish. This looks is perfect if you are going for any road-trip, Camping or trekking etc.

A perfect outfit to look stylish without feeling any extra heat. Here I completed the look with a cap of a similar colour.

  • Shirt: Zara (men’s section)
  • Cap: GAS Jeans

Look 2

Keeping the pair of jeans and the inner top same I paired the outfit with a white boyfriend shirt. This shirt is from the men’s collection of Roadster (Myntra). It is a complete cotton shirt and the most light weighted in comparison to the other two. This one is not a common button down shirt instead this has a zip ahead which makes it uncommon already. This overall look is just perfect if you are planning to go on a casual lunch or brunch date with your friends or just casually hanging around with your friends for movies etc.

A perfect outfit to beat the summer heat in style.
